ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – French Consul General in Erbil Olivier Decottignies returned to Paris with a travel bag filled with pomegranates from Halabja, Kurdistan Region.

Decottignies posted a picture of the bag. He had been to Halabja and the Hawraman region last week, before his return trip to France. Halabja is famous for the quality of its pomegranates.

Farmers harvest pomegranates annually in early October based on expert recommendations to preserve the fruit’s quality and nutritional value. Pomegranates are to be stored in cool and dry areas to prevent them from spoiling in preparation for export.

The first batch of Kurdish pomegranates locally produced in the Kurdistan Region’s Halabja province arrived in Munich, Germany, on Dec. 12, 2020.
