Italy expresses interest in expanding cooperation with Kurdistan Region

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The new Italian Consul to the Kurdistan Region visited Prime Minister Masrour Barzani at his office in Erbil on Thursday, where the two primarily discussed both diplomatic and economic cooperation of their respective governments.

According to a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) statement, Barzani began the meeting by congratulating Consul Michele Camerotaon on the occasion of assuming his position and wished him much success in his duties.

For his part, the Italian Consul pointed to the importance of consolidating his country's relations with the autonomous region of Iraq and announced Italy's readiness to develop and expand them.

In mid-September, Italy provided Iraq and the Kurdistan Region with more than 100,000 coronavirus vaccines through the international distribution consortium known as COVAX.

“Thanks to the Government of Italy for its donation of 100,800 vaccine doses to Iraq through the COVAX facility,” UNICEF representative Sheema SenGupta said at the time.
