ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has congratulated the newly elected leadership of the Kurdistan Region Parliament, praising lawmakers who worked to safeguard its legitimacy and restore the legislative body's activities.

In a statement on Wednesday, Prime Minister Barzani extended his congratulations to the newly elected Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Secretary of the sixth-term parliament.

He also commended lawmakers who, he said, had demonstrated dedication and commitment in working to protect the parliament's legitimacy and reactivate the institution.

"Your decision today honors the blood of our martyrs and the will of the voters. This step represents the triumph of the will of the people of Kurdistan," Barzani said.

He described the parliament's reactivation as a demonstration of commitment to the democratic process, expressing hope that other lawmakers would attend upcoming sessions and fulfill their national, legal, and moral responsibilities.

Barzani also called on all political parties to unite in the interest of the national cause, saying cooperation was essential to better serve the people and homeland and protect the Kurdistan Region's constitutional achievements.

On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Region Parliament officially reactivated, ending a two-year legislative deadlock that had persisted since the October 2024 regional elections. Meeting the necessary absolute majority quorum with 52 lawmakers in attendance, the legislature convened its first session in nearly two years and elected a permanent presidency board.
