ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – President Masoud Barzani has congratulated the people of Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Region Parliament's Presidency, and political parties on the reactivation of the parliament, calling on parties that did not participate in the process to join and work together.

In a statement issued by Barzani Headquarters on Wednesday, President Barzani thanked lawmakers who, he said, had fulfilled their legal and national responsibilities by restoring the functioning of the Kurdistan Region's constitutional institution.

He noted that the parliament had resumed its work two years after the Kurdistan Region's parliamentary elections.

President Barzani described the reactivation as a step toward protecting and strengthening the Kurdistan Region, stressing that it was not directed against any individual or political party but would serve the higher interests of the people of Kurdistan and the political process.

He also urged all political parties that had not participated in the process to join parliament and work collectively to serve the people of Kurdistan and advance the political process.

On Wednesday, the Kurdistan Region Parliament officially reactivated, ending a two-year legislative deadlock that had persisted since the October 2024 regional elections. Meeting the necessary absolute majority quorum with 52 lawmakers in attendance, the legislature convened its first session in nearly two years and elected a permanent presidency board.
