ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A delegation of Iraq’s Security Media Cell visited Erbil and discussed media cooperation against ISIS with top officials from the Kurdistan Region's Ministry of Peshmerga.

The delegation was received by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga, Jabbar Yawar, the Director-General of Information and National Awareness in the Peshmerga, Brigadier Othman Muhammad, senior officers, a number of media officials, and the assistant head of the International Coalition, Iraq’s Security Media Cell said in a statement.

Yawar stressed the importance of this visit and of coordination between Erbil and Baghdad.

“During this meeting, a number of topics of common interest were discussed, foremost of which is how to fight ISIS terrorist gangs and its extremist ideology in the field of security media,” read the Media Cell statement. “The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Peshmerga indicated that there are preparations to establish a media cell, whose cooperation will be continuous and part of the work of the security media cell in the federal government.”

The Iraqi delegation was headed by Major General Dr. Saad Maan. He conveyed the greetings of the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations to the attendees, and explained the importance of this visit.

“The cell delegation affirmed that there is support from the Prime Minister and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces in the field of cooperation, and that the near future will witness a lot of coordination in the field of security media, psychological operations, unified media discourse and other activities,” read the Media Cell statement.

The CJTFOIR (Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve), the formal name of the US-led coalition against ISIS, tweeted that “defeating Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIS) on the ideological battlefield is key to ensure its lasting defeat.”

“@Coalition is proud to #AdviseAssistEnable our #ISF/#Peshmerga partners while developing a counter-narrative to Daesh ideology as it is necessary to sustain our hard-fought gains,” it added.
