Kurdistan Region President sets date for regional parliamentary elections

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – President Nechirvan Barzani signed an order on Thursday specifying the date of the next parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region.

Oct. 1 has been ordered as the date for holding elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Parliament in accordance to Law No. (1) of 2005 of the amended Kurdistan Region Presidency Law - Iraq.

The order stipulates the relevant authorities, such as parliament, the government, and the Independent High Electoral Commission in the Kurdistan Region must start taking the necessary measures for these upcoming elections.

Earlier on Thursday, Kurdistan Parliament Secretary Muna Qahwachi stated that all the political blocs of the Kurdistan Parliament have agreed to hold parliamentary elections on time and that they were waiting for the region’s president to make the announcement.
