ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A Turkish drone targeted Syrian government forces in the Tal Rifaat area in northern Aleppo, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) war monitor reported Sunday.

The SOHR report said no casualties were reported from the drone strike.

The Syria-based North Press news agency also reported that a Turkish drone targeted the positions of the Syrian government forces stationed in Tal Rifaat.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Geir O. Pedersen expressed worries over violence in Syria during a UN Security Council briefing on Friday.

"Yet again, we have seen more violence across international borders – drone strikes in the north-east; Israeli strikes in the south and Damascus; and further security incidents on the Syrian-Jordanian border, which Amman states are related to drug smuggling," he told UN Security Council members.

Since late January, the number of Turkish drone strikes in northeast Syria has increased, mainly targeting areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Around 170,000 displaced Kurds from Afrin live in neighboring Tal Rifaat in northern Aleppo and its surrounding areas.

They were displaced to that area following Turkey's 2018 invasion and occupation of Afrin.

Both Syrian government forces and Kurdish-backed forces are present in the area. In several cases, civilians were killed by Turkish strikes in Tal Rifaat.

Also, on Feb. 15, five children were injured by Turkish shelling, North Press said.
