ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Clashes broke out between the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and soldiers of the Syrian government in northeast Syria on Tuesday, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) war monitor reported.

The two sides exchanged fire with machine guns near a Syrian military post in the “Al-Kouzlia” area in the Tal Tamir countryside northwest of the Hasakah.

SOHR sources reported that these clashes, which SOHR called the “first-ever” such incident in the area, resulted in casualties on both sides.

“However, the causes and motives behind the clashes remain unknown until the moment,” the war monitor reported.

SOHR also reported on Tuesday that the SDF shot a smuggler who was trying to flee to areas controlled by the Syrian government in the western Deir al-Zor countryside.

“The smuggler is a resident of Hawaij Dhiab in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor (Deir al-Zor) which is controlled by regime forces,” read the SOHR report.

SOHR activists also documented a civilian injury on Monday. The civilian is from the town of Al-Shahil in the eastern Deir al-Zor countryside. He was injured when the SDF fired on him near the Euphrates River, where he was watering his land.

At the same time, an SDF member was injured during clashes with smugglers in Al-Shinan town in the eastern Deir al-Zor country.

“Moreover, an SDF patrol managed to confiscate several quantities of fuel which was set to be smuggled to regime-held areas,” the SOHR report concluded.
