Turkish airstrike kills a civilian, wounding three others in Duhok

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A Turkish airstrike on early Tuesday killed at least one civilian and wounded three others in the Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province, Kurdistan 24 correspondent has learned.  

The strike hit an area that is only 200 meters away from the center of the Bamarne sub-district in northern Duhok province, Kurdistan 24 has learned from witnesses who wished to stay anonymous for security reasons.

The eyewitnesses also said the strike was the first of its kind in the area.

One of the wounded civilians is in “good condition”, Bazeed Jameel, the uncle of the victim, told Kurdistan 24. The health condition of the remaining injured residents is unknown.

The victims are local laborers working on an agricultural project, Jameel, told Kurdistan 24, saying the strike was prompted by the alleged presence of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the area.

Turkey regularly targets the mountainous area in Duhok province, where it alleges its longstanding foe has hideouts and bases for decades. As a result of the ongoing airstrikes and military operations, civilians are often targeted, displaced, and under constant fear of being targeted.

Kurdistan Region officials regularly call on the warring sides to take their fighting away from the Region’s populated areas, as it has already caused the displacement of villagers and evacuation of hundreds of villages.
