PM Barzani, Romanian envoy to Iraq agree to strengthen bilateral ties
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday in Erbil received the Ambassador of the Republic of Romania to Iraq, Radu-Octavian Dobre.
At the meeting, both sides discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the region and the development of relations between Romania and the Kurdistan Region.
They especially focused on cooperation in the fields of information technology and agriculture.
Prime Minister Barzani has frequently championed the Kurdish region’s agricultural boom with foreign diplomats, as his Cabinet has long sought to expand to other areas besides the Gulf countries.
The Kurdistan Region and Romania commenced diplomatic relations in 2005. Both countries have signed several agreements, including the Agreement on Cultural Exchange and Cooperation of 2018.
Romania is also a popular destination for Kurdish students and tourists, as its visa process is notably much more receptive towards the Kurdish region as opposed to most European nations.
On Nov. 8, 2022, a memorandum was signed between the American University of Kurdistan and Romania’s Alexandria Foundation.
