ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A one-way attack drone was shot down on Sunday near Erbil International Airport at 4:54 p.m., the Kurdistan Region Directorate General of Counter Terrorism (CTD) announced.

The CTD added it believes the drone was launched by "outlawed militias” that were targeting a Global Coalition Against ISIS military base near the airport.

Earlier on Sunday before dawn, two attack drones also struck a Peshmerga base in  Erbil Province’s Pirmam District.

The strikes resulted in material damages only.

Also on Dec. 25, an attack drone attacked the Global Coalition Against ISIS military base at Erbil, causing no damage.

Moreover, on Dec. 8, an unidentified attack drone crashed into a residential building in Erbil at 6:05 p.m., causing no casualties.

Also, on the same day before dawn, at least three rockets targeted the US Embassy in Baghdad's Green Zone, landing on the outskirts of the district housing government and diplomatic buildings, an Iraqi security official said.

In response to the Green Zone attack, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shi’a al-Sudani swiftly directed all security leaders to pursue the perpetrators of the attacks and bring them to justice.

Iranian-backed groups have stepped up rocket and drone attacks on U.S. bases in Syria and Iraq, including those from the Kurdistan Region following the eruption of the Hamas-Israel war, sparked by the Palestinian Islamist group’s Oct. 7 bloody attack on the southern communities of the Jewish state.
