Why Iraq Insists Coalition Withdrawal Is Irreversible?
Iraq's armed forces chief Ali al-Zaidi says the Sept. 30 coalition withdrawal deadline is final, as security officials review regional developments.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Iraqi Prime Minister reaffirmed Wednesday, that the withdrawal of the international coalition from Iraq, set for Sept. 30, is a final decision with no possibility of reversal, as he chaired a National Security Ministerial Council session on regional developments and domestic stability.
The Iraqi PM, Ali al-Zaidi presided over the ministerial council meeting, which brought together senior officials to discuss the regional situation and unfolding developments. According to Iraqi Armed Forces spokesperson Sabah Numan, the session reviewed the broader regional landscape and underscored the importance of taking the necessary measures to safeguard the country's core interests and reinforce the foundations of stability.
Numan said al-Zaidi stressed the importance of reinforcing the rule of law, developing security and military institutions, and consolidating economic and social stability, in a manner that preserves the dignity of the state and strengthens citizens' trust in official institutions.
Al-Zaidi reiterated that the decision to end the international coalition's mission in Iraq on Sept. 30 is final and irreversible. He also highlighted the implementation of the highest level of security plans, support for domestic stability, and safeguarding national sovereignty as key priorities going forward.
The session comes as Baghdad continues to prepare for the coalition's scheduled departure, with officials signaling that reinforcing state institutions and security coordination will remain central to Iraq's approach in the weeks ahead.
