ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) President Masoud Barzani on Wednesday emphasized in a statement that he supports the holding of a free and fair election

KDP President Masoud Barzani also congratulated the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region on setting the date for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Region Parliamentary elections.

"We urge the political parties to consider the situation in the Kurdistan Region, to cooperate responsibly in fostering a democratic process, and to maintain stability and coexistence,” he added.

On Wednesday, Dilshad Shahab, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, declared that President Nechirvan Barzani had issued Regional Decree No. 222 of 2024. The decree stipulates the following:

1. The general elections for the sixth session of the Kurdistan Region Parliament will be held on October 20, 2024.

2. All relevant parties are required to cooperate and coordinate with the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq to implement this decree.

3. This order shall come into effect immediately upon issuance and will be published in the Official Gazette.
