Iran executes nuclear scientist

On Sunday, the Iranian Judiciary Authority announced the execution of a notable Iranian nuclear scientist over revealing sensitive information to the US government about Iran’s nuclear projects.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, the Iranian Judiciary Authority announced the execution of a notable Iranian nuclear scientist over revealing sensitive information to the US government about Iran’s nuclear projects.

Gholamhossein Mohseni, the spokesperson for the Iranian Judiciary Authority, confirmed the execution in a press conference.

“Shahrami Amiri was executed due to his involvement with our biggest enemy, the US, and has given secret information to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA),” he announced.

Mohseni added that the CIA was unaware that Iran knew about Amiri’s relationship with them, stating that “the whole process was under our supervision.”

Additionally, Mohseni denied claims that Amiri’s charge was suddenly changed from 10 years of imprisonment to execution.

Maziya Amiri, the scientist’s mother, stated that “one day before his execution, Iranian authorities allowed us to see him, and he informed me that he would be executed soon.”

Amiri was executed in an unknown location last Wednesday his mother told BCC Persian.

In 2010, the US revealed new information on Amiri for the first time, stating that he requested asylum to America and is staying in the US.

Since the beginning of Amiri’s disappearance, Iranian authorities suspected that the nuclear scientist had joined the CIA for $5 million. In return, he would share information on the Iranian nuclear program.

Therefore, Iranian intelligence arrested Amiri’s family, including his son, to put pressure on him to return, Iran's media sources revealed.

Amidst continuous Iranian pressure on his family, Amiri returned in 2010. Following his arrival at the airport, he was arrested for “national treason” charges.

Iran is notorious for their capital punishment sentences.

On August 2, at least 36 Kurdish Sunni prisoners were hanged in Rajai Shahr Prison, Karaj, the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran (HRANA) reported.
