VIDEO: World’s oldest woman lives in Kurdistan, aged 119
Mahbuba Abdullah Harki is a 119-year-old Kurdish woman, making her one of the oldest people alive in the world.
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan24) – Mahbuba Abdullah Harki is a 119-year-old Kurdish woman, making her one of the oldest people alive in the world.
Harki lives in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region, where she is heading to the age of 120.
She was born on July 1, 1897, and has over 200 grandchildren. Most of her grandchildren currently live in Iranian Kurdistan (Rojhilat).
Harki’s health is stable, but her sense of hearing is weak, and people can barely understand her speak as she is unable to talk clearly due to her age.
In an interview with Kurdistan24, the elderly woman spoke about some local Kurdish events back in the 19th century.
Harki walks and visits her grandchildren often, but according to her grandsons, she does not recognize some of them.
Jamil Zahir, one of Harki’s grandchildren, told Kurdistan24 her grandmother’s health condition was positive, and she relied on herself when she wanted to walk somewhere.
“She is not aware of the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, especially the fight against Da’esh which is less than 80 kilometers (50 miles) away from Erbil,” Zahir said using the Arabic acronym for the so-called Islamic State (IS).

Kurdish news outlets recently reported there was another Kurdish woman the same age as Harki in the Kurdistan Region.
Salma Abdulqadir Mohammed, who lives in Sulaimani Province, is another Kurdish woman born in 1897.
Emma Morano, an Italian woman, is the oldest verified person in the world, born on Nov. 29, 1899.
