Turkey's pro-Kurdish parties condemn Turkish airstrikes on Shingal, Rojava

Guven accused the Turkish state of "life-giving oxygen" to the IS through the attacks.

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (Kurdistan24) - Pro-Kurdish parties in Turkey on Tuesday condemned overnight Turkish airstrikes on Kurdish positions in Syria and Iraq that killed at least 25 fighters.

Opposition Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and their affiliates released a statement at a press conference in front of the Congress for a Democratic Society (DTK), an umbrella organization for Kurdish civic organizations in Diyarbakir.

DTK spokesperson Leyla Guven said Turkish attacks were part of a campaign to "destroy Kurdish gains."

In northeastern Syria, Turkish jets killed at least 20 People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters and wounded 18 others at a base in the Qarachokh Mountain near the town of Derik (Al-Malikiyah).

In Iraq, airstrikes killed at least five Kurdistan Region Peshmerga soldiers and wounded nine others in the Shingal (Sinjar) district where Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) affiliates have a presence, a situation which has attracted repeated Turkish threats.

"Our Ezidi people is not alone," declared Guven about the Kurdish religious minority which makes up the majority of Shingal that came under a genocidal Islamic State (IS) invasion in 2014.

Guven also accused the Turkish state of "life-giving oxygen" to the IS through the attacks, reported a Kurdistan24 correspondent following the conference.

"There is no other explanation for such a treacherous act at a time when the operation to liberate Raqqa is gaining momentum," added the DTK official accompanied by several HDP lawmakers.

YPG has been spearheading a US-backed offensive to capture Raqqa, the eastern Syrian city that serves as de fact IS capital.

"We call on all the people of Kurdistan and their friends to unite and protests these fascist-genocidal attacks," Guven added.

Another Kurdish party based in Diyarbakir, Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) separately condemned the Turkish airstrikes.

The PAK leader Mustafa Ozcelik told Kurdistan24 that the Turkish state "could not solve anything with this policy of aggression."

But Ozcelik at the same time called on the PKK to withdraw its forces from Shingal to avoid further Turkish attacks in the region.
