Iraqi army ranks 4th in Arab world, 34th globally: Firepower Index

Global Firepower's ranking system "utilizes over 50 individual factors to determine" a country's power index "score with categories ranging from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography."

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The latest ranking issued by the Global Firepower (GFP) Index for 2022 put the Iraqi army in fourth place in terms of strength in the Arab world and 34th globally out of 140 countries.

In the global classification, the Iraqi army went up 23 ranks from the GFP's 2021 report. It is also ahead of the Emirati, Kuwaiti, Qatari, Omani, and Bahraini militaries.

The Egyptian army ranked first in the Arab world and 12 globally, while Saudi Arabia had the second Arab military 20th most powerful globally. The Algerian army ranked third in the Arab world and 31 globally.

The Iraqi army has relied on the volunteer system since 2003, before that it was based on Selective Service System, otherwise called draft system, which used to provide it with thousands of soldiers annually.
