Kurdistan PM stresses development of political, economic ties with Qatar

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday stressed the importance of developing political relations and expanding the horizons of trade and investment cooperation with Qatar.

A statement from the prime Minister’s media office said that Barzani received a phone call from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

During the phone call both sides discussed the overall situation in Iraq and the region, in addition to discussing ways to strengthen relations between the State of Qatar and the region, “particularly in trade and investment.”

In late 2021, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani visited Qatar to meet the Gulf state's top officials and discuss expanding ties.

On Monday, Iraq's acting electricity minister, Adel Karim, and Qatari energy minister Saad Sherida al-Kaabi held talks on importing gas from Qatar to help Iraq's chronic power shortage.
