New fruit and vegetable trade center inaugurated in Sulaimani province

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – A new fruit and vegetable trade center was inaugurated in the Kurdistan Region’s Sulaimani province on Monday.
Kurdistan Region Minister of Agriculture Begard Talabani delivered a speech at the inauguration ceremony in which she explained the importance of this project for producing fruit and vegetables locally.
Talabani said her ministry plans to establish new factories for the food industry in Halabja and Sulaimani provinces.

“Thanks to the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani for approving the Ministry of Agriculture’s request to allocate 400 dunams (100 acres) of land in Halabja province,” said Talabani. “We will soon start building factories on this land.”
Talabani added that this would open the door for investors in Sulaimani and Halabja to participate in this agricultural project.
“Sometime this month, we will lay the foundation stone for another food manufacturing factory on 200 dunams (50 acres) in the Sulaimani province,” she said. “This project will be a turning point for the agricultural sector in the province.”

Talabani pointed out that the goal behind these projects is to fulfill the need for agriculture products within the Kurdistan Region locally and lessen its heavy dependence on food imports.
