APIKUR has issued a strong response to recent media reports concerning the ongoing issues with oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline, asserting that these reports inaccurately attribute the stalemate to international oil companies (IOCs).

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - In an announcement on May 27, the Association of the Petroleum Industry of Kurdistan APIKUR emphasized the necessity of tripartite dialogue involving the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and IOCs to reach a mutually beneficial resolution.
APIKUR has issued a strong response to recent media reports concerning the ongoing issues with oil exports through the Iraq-Turkey oil pipeline, asserting that these reports inaccurately attribute the stalemate to international oil companies (IOCs).
Key Points from APIKUR’s Announcement:
- Media Misrepresentation: APIKUR highlighted that recent media reports wrongly blamed IOCs for the deadlock in reopening the Iraq-Türkiye Pipeline (ITP). These reports have suggested that IOCs are inflexible and responsible for the stalled negotiations, which APIKUR refutes.
- Call for Tripartite Dialogue: APIKUR reiterated the need for joint discussions between the Government of Iraq (GoI), KRG, and IOCs to find a comprehensive solution. They noted that no such discussions have occurred since January 7-9, 2024.
- Readiness to Negotiate: APIKUR member companies have expressed their readiness to resume oil exports, provided there are agreements in place ensuring payment security for both past and future exports, direct payment mechanisms, and the preservation of commercial terms. They are also open to modifying existing contracts if agreed upon by all parties involved.
Statement from APIKUR Spokesperson:
“APIKUR’s member companies believe tripartite talks between GoI [Government of Iraq], KRG [Kurdistan Regional Government], and IOCs [International Oil Companies] are the best way to find solutions that will lead to the resumption of ITP exports,” said Myles B. Caggins III, spokesperson for APIKUR. “APIKUR’s member companies stand ready to constructively participate in any such talks.”
APIKUR's Mission:
APIKUR is dedicated to promoting the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) as an attractive destination for international oil and gas companies, service providers, and investors. The association aims to advocate for its members' common interests, serve as a unified voice towards relevant stakeholders, and provide a forum for sharing industry information and best practices.
This announcement underscores APIKUR’s commitment to facilitating constructive dialogue and resolving the impasse to ensure the resumption of oil exports through the ITP.
