Reaching deadline, IHEC's extended registration further to July 4th

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Following the IHEC’s announcement regarding the registration application’s deadline, the Head of the Iraqi Independent High Electoral Commission IHEC’s Erbil Office Marwan Mohammed in a statement, extended the deadline until July 4th.

It is the third time the IHEC extended the period of registering for coalitions, political parties, independent candidates, and individual candidates of the quota-seats components, followed the decision made by the Kurdistan Region Government Presidency on Wednesday announcing the Kurdistan Region’s General Election to be held on October the 20th.

Marwan Mohammed in a response to Kurdistan 24 “In the first stage 10 political parties submitted their lists. It had reached to the number nomination stage, yet in the last stage another couple of parties got registered. So there was a total of 12 registered political parties.”

Marwan continued “As well as the 2 coalitions parties, 14 Turkman individual candidates, 7 individual candidates, and 14 general individual candidates added on. However, previously, the requests were accepted from 18 candidates.”

He explained further “The candidates who were given the numbers in the previous stage, would stay the same, but on the second stage the candidates and political parties who were sorted afterward, will be given other numbers”

The first timeframe on June 13, the IHEC, at the end of the work day shift extended the deadline up to June 24. The second extending deadline was until June 27, but now for the third time the deadline moved to July 4th.

The Kurdistan Region Government Presidency spokesperson Dlshad Shahab in a press conference on Wednesday, announced “The Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, according to the second part of the bond tenth in the Kurdistan Region Presidency’s regulations; the modified order number 1 in 2005, decided to issue the regional decree number 222, year 2024, so to set the October 20, as the general election in the 6th round of the Kurdistan Region Parliament.

The Kurdistan Region Government spokesperson Peshawa Hawramani in a statement highlighted “The Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Region Government affirmed the decree with the most voted on regarding the date of Kurdistan Region’s general election, as well as KRG is ready to fully support the polling procedures and succeed it”

Coalitions, Political Parties, Independent candidates, Quota-seats components have only Thursday to get Registered
