ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Bardarash Agriculture Directorate announced that this year's potato production in Bardarash, Duhok province, reached approximately 300,000 tons.
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, Engineer Tahsin Sulaiman, Director of Agriculture in Bardarash district, told Kurdistan 24 that this year's potato crop was substantial, with around 25,000 acres dedicated to potato cultivation.
"The production of potatoes in Bardarash reaches about 300,000 tons, which is a significant amount for the Kurdistan Region and essential for market supply," Sulaiman stated.
He also noted that a good quantity of potatoes, ranging from 1,600 to 7,000 tons daily, is exported to central and southern Iraq. This annual export is facilitated by the private sector in cooperation with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
"There are more than 15 varieties of potatoes grown in Bardarash, catering to all demands. However, the two main types for industry and food are in particularly high demand," he explained.
Sulaiman added that Bardarash has 25 potato cold storage warehouses with a capacity of about 200,000 tons. However, these warehouses have not yet begun receiving this year's crop, as farmers are selling their products directly.
