Global condemnation follows assassination attempt on President Trump, Kurdistan Region's PM expresses solidarity

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Global leaders have expressed concern over an assassination attempt targeting former U.S. President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania. 

The attack left one attendee dead and critically injured two others, with many condemning the violence that has shocked the world.

Trump’s campaign reported that the presumptive Republican nominee was doing "fine" after being whisked off the stage, though the shooting pierced the upper part of his right ear.

The Secret Service confirmed it killed the suspected shooter, who attacked from an elevated position outside the rally venue. U.S. authorities are still investigating the shooting.

Reactions from World Leaders

Australia

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the attempted assassination as an inexcusable attack on democratic values shared by Australia and the United States.

"In Australia, as in the United States, the essence and the purpose of our democracies is that we can express our views, debate our disagreements and resolve our differences peacefully," he told reporters.

Austria

Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer expressed his shock and wished Trump a quick and full recovery. "Political violence has no place in our society! My thoughts are with all the victims of this attack!" he said.

Brazil

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said the attack must be "strongly repudiated" by all defenders of democracy and dialogue in politics.

Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was sickened by the shooting, emphasizing that political violence is never acceptable.

China

China's Foreign Ministry expressed concern, noting that President Xi Jinping had extended his regards to Trump.

Germany

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the attack "despicable" and noted that such violent acts threaten democracy.

India

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern and condemned the incident, reiterating that violence has no place in politics and democracies.

Israel

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog condemned the attempt on Trump's life and wished him a fast recovery on behalf of all Israelis.

United Kingdom

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer sent his best wishes to Trump and condemned political violence in any form.

Kurdistan Region's Response

On Sunday, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region Masrour Barzani strongly condemned the attack on former President Trump and expressed his solidarity with the United States.

Prime Minister Barzani said in a statement on social media, "I condemn the attack on President Donald J Trump in the strongest terms and wish him a speedy recovery. My thoughts are with all the victims of this senseless act of terrorism."

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the Kurdistan Region's support for the United States during this challenging time, underscoring the close ties between the two nations.

"We stand in solidarity with the United States," PM Barzani added, reflecting a unified stance against terrorism and violence.

The attack on Trump occurred amid increasing political tensions in the United States, prompting widespread condemnation from international leaders.

This expression of solidarity underscores the ongoing cooperation and shared values between the Kurdistan Region and the United States in combating global terrorism.
