Iraq, France Sign Six Agreements on Defense, Energy and Development
The agreements were signed under the auspices of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and French President Emmanuel Macron.
ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Iraq and France signed six memoranda and declarations of intent on Monday at the Élysée Palace in Paris, covering defense, energy, youth and innovation, development, and civil aviation.
The agreements were signed under the auspices of Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi and French President Emmanuel Macron, according to a statement from the Iraqi News Agency.
The agreements include:
- A letter of intent between Iraq’s Ministry of Defense and Harmattan AI for strategic cooperation in air defense.
- A declaration of intent between Iraq’s Ministry of Defense and France’s Ministry of the Armed Forces on the security of French military equipment and efforts to rebuild and develop Iraq’s defense capabilities.
- A declaration of intent between Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs to enhance opportunities for youth, research, and innovation.
- A declaration of intent to strengthen cooperation between the two foreign ministries and the French Development Agency (AFD).
- A cooperation protocol between Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity and TotalEnergies concerning a contract for the supply and sale of gas.
- A declaration of intent between the Iraqi and French transportation ministries to strengthen cooperation in civil aviation.
The agreements are aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation between Baghdad and Paris across strategic and economic sectors.
