Yazidi MP condemns proposed general amnesty law in Iraqi parliament
Dakhil highlighted that the law could even exonerate those complicit in the genocide against the Yazidi community.

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi Kurdish member of the Iraqi Parliament, took to social media platform X on Wednesday to express her strong opposition to a proposed general amnesty law. Dakhil warned that the legislation could potentially absolve numerous terrorists responsible for the widespread bloodshed in Iraq, affecting Arabs, Kurds, Sunnis, Shiites, and minorities.
Dakhil highlighted that the law could even exonerate those complicit in the genocide against the Yazidi community.
In a related development, Mahma Khalil, another Iraqi parliamentarian, announced his withdrawal from Wednesday's session agenda in protest against the controversial legislation. According to a statement from his office, Khalil’s withdrawal was a vehement objection to the law, which he criticized for allowing the release of individuals who have committed heinous crimes, particularly against the Yazidis, who have suffered one of the most extensive genocides in history.
"The law represents a grave injustice to the victims of terrorism and their families, while simultaneously honoring terrorists by granting them the possibility of release," Khalil asserted. He further contended that the enactment of this law would exacerbate social divisions.
Both Dakhil and Khalil's statements underscore the deepening divide within the Iraqi Parliament over the proposed general amnesty law, which continues to spark intense debate and opposition from various political factions and communities across Iraq.
