ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Erbil governor's office has announced a budget allocation of 5.3 billion dinars for the renovation of the historic Qaysari Bazaar, following a devastating fire earlier this year.

On Wednesday, August 14, 2024, the office confirmed that the restoration of this significant historical and cultural site in Erbil is being prioritized, with the goal of reopening the Bazaar to citizens as soon as possible.

The efforts are intended to enable traders to resume their businesses and restore the Bazaar's vital role in the local economy.

The Qaysari Bazaar was severely damaged by a fire that broke out on the night of May 5, 2024. Despite the swift response of Erbil Civil Defense teams, the fire inflicted substantial damage.

According to the latest reports, 227 shops and seven small warehouses were either burned down or suffered significant damage.

In addition to the restoration budget, the Kurdistan Regional Government has implemented measures to support affected traders. These include waiving 50% of fees related to garbage collection, signage, and taxes for the year 2023, and offering a 100% waiver for 2024.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to mitigate the financial burden on businesses as they recover from the disaster.
