ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) proudly announces the completion of the Turajar Dam in Garmian province.
This critical infrastructure project, covering an impressive 450,000 square meters, stands 17 meters high and boasts a water storage capacity of 2 million cubic meters.
Strategic Purpose
The Turajar Dam serves multiple essential functions for the region:
1. Livestock and Agriculture: It will provide water for livestock and agricultural purposes, supporting local communities and enhancing food security.
2. Irrigation: The dam's reservoir will facilitate efficient irrigation, ensuring sustainable crop cultivation and increased agricultural productivity.
3. Groundwater Protection: By regulating water flow, the dam helps protect groundwater resources, safeguarding against depletion and contamination.

Ongoing Dam Projects
The KRG remains committed to water resource development. The Kurdistan Region boasts 34 dams, in various sizes. Out of the 34 dams, 23 of the projects have reached completion.
Currently, 11 additional dams are under implementation, including the Gomespan and Bastora dams, which are set to be completed this year.
