KRG to contract 38,000 teachers: Education Minister announces following PM Barzani’s directive

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – On Sunday, the Kurdistan Region Minister of Education Alan Hama Saeed announced that the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has issued a directive to contract approximately 38,000 teachers in the Kurdistan Region.

Speaking at a news conference, Minister Saeed announced that the Prime Minister’s decision aims to bolster the education sector by formalizing the employment of thousands of teachers who have been instrumental in maintaining the region’s educational standards despite financial challenges.
"Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has ordered the contracting of about 38,000 teachers, which marks a significant step towards strengthening our education system," Minister Saeed stated.
The Minister of Education expressed his gratitude to the teachers, acknowledging their tireless dedication to their duties.
He highlighted the unwavering support of Prime Minister Barzani, noting that the education sector has always been a priority for the ninth cabinet.
"The teachers of the Kurdistan Region have fulfilled their duties tirelessly, ensuring that there are no shortcomings in the education process," Minister Saeed said.
"The Prime Minister has consistently supported the education sector, and we have achieved several significant milestones under his leadership," he reiterated.
Minister Saeed also pointed out the disparity in financial support from the federal government, noting that the expenditure of Iraq's Ministry of Education alone equals the total salary budget allocated to all Kurdistan Regional Government employees by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
The announcement came after Prime Minister Barzani met with representatives of teachers in the Kurdistan Region on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
The decision to contract the teachers using the Kurdistan Regional Government’s domestic revenue has been widely welcomed, with teacher representatives expressing their gratitude for the Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing their demands and supporting the education sector.
