Pakistani pilgrims stranded in Baghdad International Airport

The Foreign Ministry and Pakistani embassy are in consistent contact with the Iraqi government to arrange flights for the pilgrims, so to return to Pakistan.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – It is two days 654 Pakistani pilgrims have been like marooned in Baghdad International Airport due to technical problems experiencing with two planes of Iraqi Airways.

The Pakistani Foreign Ministry stated that hundreds of their nationals who visited Iraq for the purpose of participating in 40-day of Imam Hussainia ceremony, cannot fly back to Pakistan due to planes faulty.

According to the source from the ministry, the Foreign Minister instructed Pakistani ambassador to Iraq to provide meals and other necessities for the pilgrims from the start of their journey.

The Foreign Ministry and the Pakistani embassy are in consistent contact with the Iraqi government to rearrange flights for the pilgrims, so to return to Pakistan.

The General Management office at the Baghdad International Airport expects all the pilgrims to fly back to Pakistan on Saturday.

Depending on the statistics by to the General Trustee of Abbas Ataba in Iraq, who supervise the annual 40th-day anniversary of Imam Hussein, this year 21.480.525 pilgrims from inside and abroad of Iraq participated in the 40th anniversary of Imam Hussein.
