ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In an exclusive interview with Al Hadath TV, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani addressed several pressing issues regarding relations between the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, regional security, and foreign relations. The interview is set to air on Friday at 6:30 pm.

Resolving Conflicts with Baghdad

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the Kurdistan Region's readiness to resolve longstanding disputes with the Iraqi federal government. "If Baghdad has the intention to resolve these conflicts, the Kurdistan Region is ready, and a solution is within reach," Barzani said.

He also criticized the lack of progress on the implementation of the Sinjar agreement, which was signed between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi federal government to stabilize the region and facilitate the return of displaced people. Barzani pointed to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) as a significant obstacle, stating, "The PKK’s presence in Sinjar has hindered reconstruction efforts and the return of refugees."

PKK's Presence: A Regional Threat

Barzani further expressed concerns about the PKK’s activities beyond their stated agenda, saying their presence is not beneficial for the Kurdistan Region or the broader region. He warned that the PKK's influence extends to areas unrelated to their core mission, complicating security and development efforts.

Relations with Iran and Baghdad

On the recent visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, Barzani called it an important event. "I hope this visit will mark the beginning of stronger relations," he said. Barzani also dismissed accusations of Israeli bases in the Kurdistan Region, labeling Iran's recent missile attacks on the region as "unjustified."

Federalism and Relations with Baghdad

Addressing domestic concerns, Barzani expressed frustration with elements in Baghdad that resist federalism. He emphasized that Iraq is a diverse country requiring genuine partnership in governance. "Some believe governance should be centralized, but Iraq is a multi-communal country," he said, reiterating the Kurds' commitment to the constitution.

Barzani also noted that the Kurdistan Region's issues with Baghdad extend beyond oil and salary disputes. While the suspension of oil exports has caused significant financial harm, he argued, "Our problems are bigger than just salaries and oil. Those accusing the Kurdistan Region of oil smuggling must present real evidence."

Despite the challenges, Barzani acknowledged progress in relations between the KRG and the Iraqi government under Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, signaling optimism about a potential resolution if Baghdad demonstrates a willingness to cooperate.

The full interview will be broadcast on Al Hadath TV, providing deeper insights into the KRG's stance on these critical issues.
