ERBIL (Kurdistan24) — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani laid the foundation stone for 21 new service projects in the Mergasor district of Erbil on Wednesday, marking a significant step in the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) efforts to improve public services in rural areas.

In his speech, Barzani emphasized that the government's development agenda is not limited to the urban centers of cities and provinces but aims to benefit all citizens, including those in remote villages and towns. He noted that these projects are part of the KRG’s broader mission to ensure equal access to essential services for all Kurdish citizens, regardless of their location.

"Barzan is a strategic area that has been at the heart of Kurdistan’s revolutions and uprisings for the past 120 years," Barzani said, highlighting the region's historical significance. "This area has played a pivotal role in the Kurdish people's liberation movement, achieving many victories for our nation."

He acknowledged the hardships faced by the people of Barzan, whose villages were repeatedly destroyed during conflicts. "Despite being burned and destroyed several times, the people of Barzan have always returned to rebuild with faith in God," Barzani remarked. "Those who sought to destroy Barzan and the Kurdistan Revolution are now history. With God's support, Barzan and Kurdistan will remain strong, and we will continue rebuilding all Kurdish villages."

Barzani also outlined the government's economic goals for rural areas, including plans to improve the financial situation by creating job opportunities through small and medium-sized enterprises. He mentioned the construction of factories in these regions as a key initiative to boost incomes and provide sustainable livelihoods for residents.

Regarding the occupation of Kirkuk on Oct. 16, Barzani reminded the audience of the betrayal that occurred on this date. He praised the bravery of the Peshmerga forces, who defended Kurdistan against these threats, ensuring that the enemies' plans to take over the entire region were thwarted.

“Our people must never forget this betrayal,” Barzani urged. “It is crucial that we hold those responsible accountable so that such acts of treachery are not repeated in the future."

The 21 new service projects in Mergasor are expected to provide vital infrastructure and improve the quality of life for local communities, underscoring the KRG's commitment to fostering balanced development across the region.
