In Ankawa, Priests sent over messages regarding election to Christian community in Kurdistan

The written message in an official letter highlighted that Kurdistan Region embraces the largest harmonious and stable Christian community in the Middle East.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The church priests in the Ainkawa District in Erbil sent out a message to Christians in the Kurdistan Region, encouraging them to participate effectively in the voting process on October 20, 2024, of the Kurdistan Region’s parliamentary general election. 

In a joint letter by the Archbishop of the Chaldean in Erbil, Mar Matti Warda, the Head of the Syriac Orthodox Community in Mosul, Kirkuk and the region, Mar Matti Sharaf, and Archbishop of the Syriac Catholic Hadiab, the Bishop Nzar Samaan.

The bishops considered participation in the democratic process is responsibility for believers, highlighting that reflects the Christian values ​​and trust in the country which they live in. 

They confirmed that election represents an opportunity to express the views and opinions, an opportunity to choose representatives who reflect community needs and aspirations

Contributing to the parliament, to re-shape and build a better future for following generation was an important part in the message the priests focused on. 

The written message in an official letter highlighted that Kurdistan Region embraces the largest harmonious and stable Christian community in the Middle East.

The message emphasized that to protect such situation is the responsibility of all, as well as prompts to choose the most suitable for this task.

The special voting process took place on Friday October 18th, 2024, in Kurdistan Region Peshmerga and all other security forces headed to ballot and pooling station, casting their votes.

The Parliamentary General Election for public is on Sunday, October 20th, 2024, between 07:00 until 18:00 (Kurdistan Regional local time).
