KRG Interior Ministry calls for stricter election security measures

The Director General of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Interior Ministry has called on the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to "strengthen security measures to ensure the integrity of the election process."

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Hemen Mirani, General Director of the Interior Ministry Divan, has issued a statement calling for enhanced security measures during the parliamentary elections.

The Director General of the Kurdistan Regional Government's Interior Ministry has called on the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) to "strengthen security measures to ensure the integrity of the election process."

Following a meeting between KRG officials and the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC), the ministry announced four key security directives:

1. Mobile phones and cameras are prohibited inside polling stations, except for accredited journalists, political entity representatives, and domestic/international observers with IHEC badges.

2. Candidate representatives must maintain a 150-meter distance from polling stations.

3. All campaign posters must be removed within 150 meters of polling stations.

4. Only designated security forces within the security committee framework are permitted near polling stations in uniform.

The measures come as general voting began at 7:00 AM today for Kurdistan's sixth parliamentary elections, with 2,686,578 eligible voters across the Erbil, Duhok, Sulaimani, and Halabja electoral districts.
