UN Envoy: Kurdistan Elections Demonstrate Region's Civility

ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – Mohamed al-Hassan, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative for Iraq (UNAMI), praised the peaceful conduct of Kurdistan's parliamentary elections, calling it "a testament to the civility of Kurdistan's people."

During his visit to a polling station in Erbil, Hassan described the day as historic, stating, "This process illuminates the path forward for both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq."

Hassan urged media to focus on the positive aspects of the electoral process while acknowledging its complexities.

He reaffirmed the UN's continued support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, emphasizing that "the people of Kurdistan deserve security, stability, and prosperity."

The general voting for Kurdistan's sixth parliamentary elections began at 7:00 AM today, Oct. 20, 2024, under the supervision of Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission.
