Kurdistan Region Delegation is in Baghdad to discuss census related issues, arrangements

According to the formal announcement by the Kurdistan Region Statistics Head Office, the general population census of the whole country of Iraq including Kurdistan Region is to be held on November 20th, 2024.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government arrived in Baghdad today to discuss the issue of the general population census in Iraq with the relevant Iraqi authorities. 

The census arranged to be held next month, on November 20th, 2024, and the Kurdish delegations are the Diwan (Office) Chairman at the Council of Ministers of Kurdistan Region Government, Dr. Omed Sabah, Dr. Amanj Raheem, the secretary-administrator at the Council of Ministers and Dr. Dara Rashid, the Minister of Planning at the Kurdistan Region Government. 

According to the formal announcement by the Kurdistan Region Statistics Head Office, the general population census of the whole country of Iraq including Kurdistan Region is to be held on November 20th, 2024. 

The second paragraph of that session included at the time, the latest developments related to the general population census in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

After discussions, deliberations, the Kurdistan Region Government’s Council of Ministers confirmed that it would not oppose the population census.

However, by doing that, it shouldn’t be misused for any political purposes or made an alternative to any procedures stipulated in the Article 140 of the Constitution which is regarding Kirkuk, the Kurdish province.

In such direction, the Council of Ministers recommended both the Ministry of Planning and the regional general authority in Kurdistan to pass on region’s observations, concerns, proposals, recommendations and directives to the relevant authorities in the federal government in Baghdad.

The Minister of Planning, Dara Rashid, and the Chairman of the Kurdistan Regional Authority outside the Kurdistan Region’s Administration, Fahmi Burhan, highlighted the latest preparations made for conducting the population census. 

In the procedure, the census teams have been divided into several blocks for numbering and counting. 

“More than 8,000 employees and managers have supervised this process," The Acting Deputy of the Planning Ministry said.
