ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a decisive strike against ISIS, Iraqi F-16 fighter jets conducted four airstrikes on key militant positions in the Hamrin Mountains of Kirkuk province, successfully neutralizing senior ISIS leaders, according to the Joint Operations Command of the Republic of Iraq.
The Command reported Wednesday that two days prior, four Iraqi F-16 jets coordinated to carry out precision strikes targeting ISIS fighters in the mountainous area. Following the operation, a specialized security team composed of Iraqi Army special forces and intelligence officers from the Kirkuk Directorate was deployed to the strike location. On-site, the team discovered the bodies of eight high-ranking ISIS members, including the group’s local leader.
In addition to recovering the bodies, Iraqi forces seized a significant cache of weapons, explosives, logistics supplies, and communication devices. According to the statement, these resources underscore the importance of the location as a primary ISIS headquarters in the region.
This operation marks a major success for Iraqi forces in their ongoing efforts to dismantle ISIS's operational infrastructure and disrupt the group’s influence across Iraq.
Furthermore, on Oct. 25, Iraqi Air Force fighter jets launched targeted airstrikes evening, striking key ISIS hideouts in the Kurdistan Region's Garmiyan independent administration, according to a Peshmerga command source. The strikes reportedly targeted areas near Ghara, Palkana, and Duraji, located between Kifri and Tuz Khurmatu, in response to persistent ISIS presence since Oct. 16, 2017.
