ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – Iraqi Minister of Planning Muhammad Ali Tamim met on Sunday with Fars Issa, the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) representative in Baghdad, to address key technical matters related to Iraq's upcoming population census.

During the meeting, both officials reviewed the KRG’s comments on the census process, with a particular focus on issues impacting refugees and displaced persons. They underscored the importance of addressing these concerns to ensure comprehensive and accurate data collection across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

In addition to the census, the discussions highlighted employment figures in the Kurdistan Region and the ongoing biometric registration process for public sector employees. Both sides agreed on the need to complete biometric registration by the end of this year, underscoring its significance for transparency and efficiency in the region’s workforce management.

The nationwide population census is scheduled to take place on Nov. 20, covering Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the disputed territories. According to recent projections from the Ministry of Planning, Iraq's population is expected to reach approximately 51.5 million by the end of 2023. This upcoming census aims to provide updated demographic insights critical to planning and resource allocation across the country.
