High-Profile Murder Trial Begins in Diyarbakir for Eight-Year-Old Narin Goran's Death
According to the Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, prosecutors are seeking life sentences for all defendants.
ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The trial of four suspects in the tragic death of eight-year-old Narin Güran commenced on Thursday (Nov. 7, 2024) in Diyarbakir, drawing significant attention with over 50 politicians, activists, and lawyers in attendance.
The defendants facing trial today include the victim's uncle Salim Güran, mother Yüksel Güran, brother Enes Güran, and neighbor Nevzat Bahtiyar. According to the Diyarbakir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, prosecutors are seeking life sentences for all defendants.
The case has also involved 22 additional individuals who have previously provided testimonies during the investigation, including Arif Güran, the victim's father, who is present at today's hearing.
Due to the sensitive nature of the case, approximately 50 lawyers from Turkey and North Kurdistan (southeastern Turkey), along with several members of parliament, are attending the court proceedings.

Narin Güran went missing on August 21 from Tavşantepe (Çillüye) village, in Bağlar District locates in Diyarbakir province. After an extensive search spanning several weeks, her body was discovered in a stream near the village on September 8. The case has sparked widespread public outcry and garnered significant media attention across the region.
