ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) - According to Kurdistan24 sources, high-raking representatives of Kurdish political parties in Kirkuk will convene tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at the Kurdistan Democratic Party's (KDP) Branch 3 headquarters to discuss the upcoming national census.

The meeting marks the first time since Oct. 16 that Kurdish political parties have gathered to address a crucial national issue.

Following the discussions, a bilingual press conference will be held in both Kurdish and Arabic to present a unified stance on the census matter.

This gathering comes as the Iraqi government prepares to conduct its comprehensive population census on Nov. 20-21, during which a nationwide curfew will be imposed to facilitate the counting process.

The national census in Iraq has been a sensitive issue, particularly in disputed territories like Kirkuk, where demographic composition plays a crucial role in political representation and resource allocation. This will be Iraq's first comprehensive census since 1987, excluding the Kurdistan Region.

The unified meeting of Kurdish political parties reflects the significance of this demographic exercise for the Kurdish population and its potential implications for Kurdish rights and representation in Kurdistani areas outside Kurdistan Region control.

The two-day curfew during the census demonstrates the Iraqi government's determination to ensure accurate population counting across all provinces.
