Productive meeting between Kurdistan Region President, Iraqi Prime Minister

Al-Sudani congratulated the Kurdistan Region regarding the success of the parliamentary general elections and extended the compliments on the large number of citizens participation in the electoral process.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with the Prime Minister of the Iraqi Federal Government, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Wednesday, in Erbil.

In the meeting the results of the Kurdistan Region parliamentary general elections, the steps to form the new cabinet of the regional government, Erbil-Baghdad bilateral relations, the situation in the country and the latest developments in the region were discussed. 

Al-Sudani congratulated the Kurdistan Region regarding the success of the parliamentary general elections and extended the compliments on the large number of citizens participation in the electoral process.

According to the official sources, such voting turnout was a sign of the political consciousness by Kurdish people and their commitment to the democratic process.

The two sides stressed the significant of strengthening coordination mechanisms, also the need to resolve outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad through constructive dialogue and compliance with the Iraqi constitution.

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani praised the Iraqi Prime Minister and all relevant Iraqi parties’ support in the success of the elections process.

HE also stressed the importance of enhancing the cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad on the next phase.

The latest changes in the Middle East and their impact on Iraq discussed in the meeting, in this regard, the two sides stressed the need to keep the country away from the consequences of regional conflicts and work together to maintain security and stability.

Furthermore, the bilateral relations between Iraq and Kurdistan Region with neighboring countries and the wider region was an essential part of the session.

In a message posted through X platform, the Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani delightfully welcomed the Iraqi Prime Minister, described the meeting as a productive discussion about important topics, including the recent elections in Kurdistan, government formation, and the wider regional stability.
