Iraqi Prime Minister calls for swift formation of new KRG cabinet, highlights stability as a key strength

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – In a crucial meeting held in Erbil, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani urged swift action in the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), emphasizing that stability and mutual understanding in the Kurdistan Region serve as pillars of strength for all of Iraq.
The Prime Minister’s media office issued a statement saying that Al-Sudani met with representatives of the political parties and components who secured seats in the Kurdistan Regional Parliament in the recent elections. He congratulated the attendees, acknowledging the trust placed in them by the people of the Kurdistan Region, and remarked that the elections marked a significant step forward in Iraq's political process.
"These elections reinforce democratic principles and demonstrate the peaceful transfer of power," Al-Sudani said, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the federal government, alongside the President of the Kurdistan Region, to ensure a successful election process. The federal government, he noted, extended all necessary support to guarantee the elections were conducted smoothly and transparently.
During the meeting, Al-Sudani underscored the importance of promptly initiating dialogue to form the new government and for the regional parliament to begin its legislative work, noting the public's high expectations for tangible improvements in daily life and public services. He emphasized that a stable and active parliament and government in the Kurdistan Region would not only benefit the region but also bolster stability at the national level.
"Stability in the Kurdistan Region contributes to the strength and resilience of all Iraqi communities," he stated, urging cooperation from both regional and federal stakeholders to address the challenges ahead.
Acknowledging past challenges, Al-Sudani assured attendees that many long-standing issues have been addressed, though further steps are still needed to fully resolve the remaining obstacles.
