KRG delegation engages in climate talks at COP29 in Baku

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – A delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) participated in high-level discussions with representatives from the United States, Brazil, Qatar, and international investors during the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), according to Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman, Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Foreign Affairs and Climate Change.
The meetings focused on climate change challenges in the Kurdistan Region and explored opportunities for the region to benefit from international expertise and strategies for mitigating climate impacts. Delegates from the US State Department, Brazil, Qatar’s Ministry of Environment, and a number of European and Gulf investors shared insights into sustainable practices and adaptation measures.
COP29, held in Baku, Azerbaijan, gathers world leaders, scientists, and activists to address urgent climate issues. This year’s conference emphasizes ambitious goals for reducing carbon emissions, advancing sustainable energy initiatives, and enhancing adaptation strategies to protect vulnerable communities. It also aims to foster international collaboration and secure financing to support developing countries in their climate efforts.
