ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani has officially decreed the first session of the sixth parliamentary term to convene on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM, announced Kurdistan Region Presidency spokesperson Dilshad Shahab during a press conference on Tuesday.
Shahab revealed that discussions are already underway between political parties regarding the formation of the tenth Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet. "The parties have demonstrated their eagerness to fulfill their electoral campaign promises to the public," he stated.
The spokesman confirmed that following the official certification of election results by Iraq's Independent High Electoral Commission and the setting of the parliament's first session date, formal government formation negotiations are expected to begin in the coming days.
Significantly, Shahab explicitly dismissed speculation that Kurdish parties would wait for Iraq's upcoming parliamentary elections before forming the new KRG cabinet. "The formation of the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government will proceed independently of Iraq's electoral timeline," he emphasized.
This announcement comes at a crucial juncture in the Kurdistan Region's political process, following recent regional parliamentary elections.
The decision to proceed with government formation independently of Iraqi national elections demonstrates the Kurdistan Region's commitment to maintaining its autonomous democratic institutions.
The sixth parliamentary term will face several important tasks, including the formation of the region's tenth government and addressing various political and economic challenges facing the region.
