Severe weather leads to closing primary schools until further notice

According to the official sources, the safety actions are taken because of the snowfall affecting commuting and it endangers the safety of the pupils.

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region (Kurdistan 24) – With an urgent decision made by the Education Directorate of Provinces in Turkey, the primary schools in five provinces of North Kurdistan and Turkey have been closed due to a heavy snow and rain.

Primary schools in Van, Erzincan (Erzînganê) and Erdehan provinces in the North of Kurdistan and Ordu (Altınordu ) and Artvin provinces of Turkey are closed until further notice, on Thursday due to the severe temperature-falling, which is below zero degrees Celsius.

That decision also applies to the center of the cities, all the surrounding villages, roads between several villages and other areas are closed.

The traffic and transportations have been disrupted, especially in the mountainous areas, the commuting between places have become very hard due to the severe weather.

According to the official sources, the safety actions are taken because of the snowfall affecting commuting and it endangers the safety of the pupils.

The local authorities have been instructed to take necessary actions in the severe weather conditions.

Along with the primary school pupils, female workers who are pregnant and disabled people can be given a formal day off by their work settings.

Regarding the closure of the roads, the local authorities in the above provinces reported the teams of the provincial special administration continue to try to clear and open the closed roads between cities and villages.
