ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Korek Mountain Resort, nestled in the scenic heights of the Soran Independent Administration, has become a magnet for winter tourism as snow blankets its picturesque landscapes.

With temperatures dropping to -2°C, the resort is attracting a diverse array of visitors, including locals, Iraqis from central and southern regions, and international tourists.

Tourists are captivated by the resort's enchanting ambiance. Samantha Hopson, visiting from Australia, shared her delight with Kurdistan24:

"This is my first time in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq. It’s absolutely beautiful—like something out of a fairytale. There are so many activities, like skiing, and the cafes and restaurants are fantastic. I didn’t even know it snowed here. It’s amazing and truly unique. I recommend everyone to visit this place."

Similarly, another tourist expressed admiration for the resort:

"This is my first visit to the Kurdistan Region, and I’m here with my wife. The resort is incredible, and I can’t wait to go skiing. The people here are so kind and hospitable—it has been a mind-blowing experience."

Enhanced Facilities for Visitors

Korek Mountain Resort has made significant preparations for the winter season to ensure an unforgettable experience for visitors.

With the addition of the Radisson Blu Hotel, the resort now accommodates up to 1,000 overnight guests. The new hotel boasts five restaurants, complementing the resort’s existing cafes and dining options.

Hussein Ali, the resort’s administrative manager, highlighted these developments:"Our new facilities aim to enhance the experience for tourists and encourage more visits. We are committed to providing a welcoming environment, quality services, and memorable activities for our guests."

The resort’s reputation as a winter destination has grown significantly, with 80% of its visitors coming from outside the Kurdistan Region. Korek Mountain, standing at 2,127 meters above sea level, is a natural haven for snow during winter.

This pristine environment, combined with diverse activities like skiing and breathtaking views, makes it one of the Kurdistan Region's most sought-after tourist spots.
