ERBIL (Kurdistan 24) – The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) ninth cabinet, led by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, has launched a sweeping development campaign in Qushtapa district. With an investment of 250 billion Iraqi dinars, the district is witnessing significant improvements in infrastructure and public services, marking a transformative phase in its history.

Bizhar Mala Khdir, the District Commissioner of Qushtapa, highlighted the impact of these initiatives. “Since Prime Minister Masrour Barzani designated Qushtapa as a district and introduced key decisions across various sectors, including reconstruction and public services, the district has entered a new era of development,” he said.

Major Projects Transforming Qushtapa

Over the past year, Qushtapa has seen the completion of several vital projects, including:

Healthcare: Construction of a 50-bed hospital and renovation of health centers.
Roads: Paving of 12 kilometers of roads, along with new village access roads.
Education: Building and renovating 15 schools and kindergartens.
Infrastructure: Installation of streetlights and implementation of two electricity projects.
Community Development: Initiatives focusing on youth in the region.

Key Milestones Under PM Masrour Barzani

On June 25, 2024, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani inaugurated the Qushtapa Silo, a critical infrastructure project in the district. The event, held in the presence of Kamal Muslim, Minister of Trade and Industry, and Omed Khoshnaw, Governor of Erbil, highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and boosting agricultural productivity.

On Sep. 17, 2024, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Qushtapa Water Project. With an investment of 189.67 billion Iraqi dinars, this project aims to address the water needs of Qushtapa and surrounding areas, representing another significant step forward in the district’s development.

Community Satisfaction and Future Plans

Residents of Qushtapa have expressed their gratitude for these projects, particularly the construction and renovation of roads, which have greatly improved transportation and mobility within the district. “We appreciate the Kurdistan Region's Prime Minister for implementing these initiatives, which have made our daily lives much easier,” said a local resident.

The KRG has pledged to continue its development efforts in Qushtapa, focusing on further improving the quality of life for its inhabitants.

A Strategic Upgrade for Qushtapa

Historically an agricultural hub, Qushtapa’s recent elevation from a sub-district to district status under Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s leadership reflects a broader government strategy to empower rural areas. This administrative upgrade aims to create decentralized governance structures that provide better services and opportunities for local populations.

The transformation of Qushtapa district is a testament to the ninth cabinet's dedication to fostering growth and development across the Kurdistan Region.
