ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – known as al-Nusra Front or Front for the Conquest of the Levant) has confirmed the capture of several villages and townships near north of Hama. The armed group also announced preparations to expand its control on other territories as well.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has also confirmed that HTS and its allied armed groups have been successful in controlling several villages and towns in northern areas of Hama, including Halfaya, Morek, Ltamenah, Kafr Zita, Qalaat al-Madiq, Kafr Nabudah, Kernaz, Lahaya, al-Buwaida, Latmin, Sawran, al-Mughayr, and Maardes.
All these territories were captured by HTS and its allies following the retreat of the Syrian army.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also informed that the Syrian Army has been regrouping and has placed numerous new checkpoints and bases on the outskirts of Hama.
This, as the observatory highlighted, is to prepare to blockade the city and protect it from falling into the hands of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies.
The Syrian Regime, as the Observatory stated, has sent in a significantly large force, including Special Forces affiliated with Suhel al-Hassan, to strategic locations in Zayn al-Abidin Mountain, Tibet al-Imam, Qamhana, and Khattab.
These unfolding events follow Friday and Saturday’s, Nov. 29 and 30, events when the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and its allies' blitzkrieg into Aleppo captured the majority of the city.
Hama is a city on the banks of the Orontes River in west-central Syria. It is located 213 km north of Damascus and 46 kilometers north of Homs.
