ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - The Syrian Embassy in Qatar released a formal statement on Sunday officially acknowledging the liberation of Syria and the end of Bashar al-Assad's 24-year rule.
In a significant diplomatic announcement, the embassy declared "the dawn of freedom in Syria and the beginning of a new chapter in the nation's history."
The statement reflected on the Syrian people's struggles under the previous administration, noting that citizens had endured "decades of oppression under an authoritarian regime that committed grave violations against human dignity and depleted the nation's resources."
Today was characterized as "historic," and the embassy addressed the Syrian people about the challenges ahead.
"We extend a message to all Syrians that the path before us is long and challenging. It is our collective responsibility to rebuild our nation and construct a future worthy of this great country," the statement emphasized.
This diplomatic acknowledgment follows the reported entry of opposition forces into Damascus earlier today, marking the end of Assad's 24-year presidency. President Assad's current location remains unknown.
