President Barzani, Kurdistan Region praised for support of Syrian people in SNC statement

ERBIL (Kurdistan24) – The Syrian Negotiation Commission (SNC) extended its appreciation to the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and its leadership, particularly President Masoud Barzani, for their firm support of the Syrian people amid the ongoing crisis in Syria.

In a statement, the SNC praised the Kurdistan Region for its humanitarianism, dealing with Syrians displaced by conflict not merely as refugees but as "guests and brothers."

The Commission recognized the essential role of President Barzani in addressing the Syrian issue with deep sympathy, noticing that his support for the rights of the Syrian people has had "a great impact that cannot be overlooked."

"The Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani dealt with the Syrian issue as if it were his own," the statement read, underscoring the solidarity shown by the Kurdistan Region in hosting Syrians fleeing violence.

Furthermore, the SNC hoped for the return of the displaced Syrians in the near future so that they too contribute to Syria's stability, reconstruction, and prosperity.

The Commission called on Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to give precedence to cooperation and mutual support, underlining the historic ties and shared objectives between Iraq and Syria.

"Iraq and Syria are twin brothers, partners in good times and bad, and bear many responsibilities to ensure security and stability and spread peace throughout the Middle East," the statement added.

The SNC pushed for the Iraqi government to develop stronger ties with Syria, highlighting a shared vision for a more secure and stable future for the region.

The statement is evidence of the Kurdistan Region’s important role in addressing humanitarian crises in the region and highlights the significance of solidarity during these critical times.
