Erbil (Kurdistan24) – On Monday, the Syrian Observatory for Rights (SOHR) reported that Russia has transferred dozens of high-ranking previous Syrian regime officers from the Hmeimim base to North Africa.

According to a statement released by the Syrian Observatory, Russian forces at the Hmeimim base carried out multiple transports of senior Assad regime officers and officials to a base in North Africa on December 8, 13, and 14.

The Observatory also noted that some of these officers and officials are currently under U.S. and European sanctions.

This relocation comes after the significant development of Dec. 8, 2024, when Syrian opposition forces, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS and its allies, entered and took control of Damascus, effectively ending the rule of the Assad family that spanned for more than half a century.
